A Message from the Superintendent
August 13, 2026
Dear Wappingers CSD Community,
We have had a very busy and productive summer in Dutchess County's largest school District and the 9th largest in the State of New York as our $153.77 million Capital Improvement Proposition, which was approved by our voters in 2025, has begun. The project is expected to take place over several years, and will include additions to our junior high schools, which will create more opportunities for grades 6-8, and more room in our elementary buildings. It also includes essential improvements to our athletic facilities, and many other structural upgrades and repairs district-wide.
This summer, we’ve begun Phase 1: A full renovation of the Large Group Instruction rooms at both high schools; early stages of work on the new turf field and press box at John Jay High School; and other building improvements throughout the District. Many of these are not “pretty” but they are so vital: roof repairs, sidewalk repaving, adding ADA-accessible ramps, and expanding parking lots, just to name a few.
To complete this work, we have entered into a Project Labor Agreement (PLA). This agreement to use local labor will not only expedite the process and minimize disruption; it will also promote work opportunities for those within the District and surrounding areas and establish pathways for apprenticeship programs for our students. We are very proud to partner with the labor unions, to keep the work local and offer more opportunities for our students and community.
The top priority of the Wappingers CSD remains the safety of our students and staff. We continue to prioritize student mental health services and offer expanded services in those areas. We will continue to partner with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and our local municipalities to provide an expanded law enforcement presence in our 15 schools. I am grateful to Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati, and the Town Supervisors, Mayors, and Village and/or Town Boards in the Town of East Fishkill, Town of Fishkill, Village of Fishkill, Town of Poughkeepsie, Town of Wappinger, and Village of Wappingers Falls for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to a safe school environment for all.
The District is very pleased to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Dutchess Community College to offer high school students an opportunity to take the DCC course FRS 100 and earn both high school and college credit. This pilot program, for the 2026-27 school year, will allow high school students to take FRS 100, College and Career Seminar, a one credit DCC course, at no charge to the family or student. This pilot program is made possible by a grant secured by DCC. Wappingers CSD is currently registering high school students to take the course, but we are anticipating enrollment to be approximately 380 students. In addition, the PTECH (Pathway to Early College High School Program at Roy C. Ketcham HS) in partnership with DCC and DCBOCES Cohort 1, will begin their first year at the Center for Business, Industry and Innovation at DCC Fishkill. This year, we welcome the third cohort to begin Year 1 at Roy C. Ketcham HS.
The District has also had some changes at the building level. Mr. Anthony Giovannazi, who once served as an Assistant Principal at Roy C. Ketcham HS, and most recently served as a Middle School Principal in the Hendrick Hudson CSD, will serve as Interim Principal at Roy C. Ketcham HS through the spring of 2027. Mr. James Mackin, who once served as an Assistant Principal at John Jay HS, and most recently served as an elementary school principal in the Hendrick Hudson School District, will serve as Interim Principal at Myers Corners ES for the 2026-2027 school year.
We look forward to welcoming our students back for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8 to begin a most productive and rewarding 2026-2027 school year!
